Honestly, if you want a good first car that won't suck you dry, I can't highly enough recommend a Honda. They are fantastic cars. They aren't pretty, and they aren't fast, but they are uber-reliable. I bought a 1994 Honda Civic hatchback w/33k miles for $10k, and it has been extremely good to me. So good that three years after I bought it, I had it paid off and I could buy a 300ZX. -Ben
